Commerce Weavers Takes Third Place at the Open Mercato Hackathon with a Warehouse Operator Panel

HackOn Wrocław took place on 18-20 September 2026 at Concordia Design on Słodowa Island and brought together more than 100 people, including organizers and participants.

Why Did We Choose the Solve Your Real Problem Track?

Participants could work in one of four tracks: Showcase, dedicated to demonstrating the capabilities of Open Mercato; AI Company, focused on companies using AI agents; Cezar, involving the development of a tool for running agents in parallel; and Solve Your Real Problem, where the challenge was to digitize a real process within an organization.

We chose the last one. We arrived with an idea for improving warehouse operations, and during the hackathon, we met people facing challenges that our solution could help address.

What Did We Build at the Open Mercato Hackathon?

We developed a prototype of a mobile warehouse operator panel based on the Open Mercato WMS module. It allows warehouse staff to carry out selected tasks directly on the warehouse floor using a mobile device.

The panel supports receiving shipments, scanning barcodes to check stock levels, counting products on pallets and picking orders. Warehouse operators can also report discrepancies identified during their work.

We integrated the panel with a label printer so that barcodes could be printed for products and incoming load carriers. This was one of the most satisfying moments of the hackathon: the result of our work appeared not only on a screen but also on a physical label.

The panel is part of Open Mercato, so the operations performed through it are reflected in the inventory records stored in the system. We also used the notification module to alert the administrator to changes.

Third Place in the Solve Your Real Problem Track

Our warehouse operator panel took third place in the Solve Your Real Problem track. We were particularly pleased with the result because we saw so many interesting ideas for using Open Mercato during the event.

The Machinekind team presented an integration between the platform and robotic arms. Their solution uses camera footage to detect potentially hazardous waste, which could be useful on sorting lines. Excelmed, meanwhile, developed an assistant that listens as a dentist describes a patient's dental condition and records the information in the system in real time.

These are just two examples of the many projects we had the opportunity to discover in Wrocław.

What's Next for Our Warehouse Management Solution?

Marcin, a member of our hackathon team, plans to pilot the panel at the company where he currently works. Such a test would allow us to evaluate the features we developed during day-to-day warehouse operations and identify what would be worth developing further.

We came to the hackathon with an idea for improving a specific process, and in a short time, we managed to build a working prototype. We're delighted to have taken third place, but we'd also like to see how the panel performs in day-to-day warehouse operations. A test like this will show us what is worth developing further.

Knowledge, People and New Ideas

A hackathon involves more than coding. We also attended presentations, including a talk by Patryk Lewczuk on different topologies for using AI agents.

We're glad that more and more people at Commerce Weavers are getting hands-on experience with Open Mercato. We returned from Wrocław with plenty of energy to continue working with the platform.
